Vernon Takes Flight: Exhibit Opening

Join us for the special opening of our new, family-friendly exhibit, "Vernon Takes Flight." Explore the city's relationship with the skies, from the City of Vernon plane (built on the top floor of what is now the Rail Trail Cafe), to Lowell Dunsmore's flying school that produced a number of well-known pilots, to Captain Ernest Hoy's flight over the Rockies (the first ever!), with its special layover in Vernon. The exhibit includes never-before seen footage, and a special Kids Zone where children can try their hand at making a variety of paper planes, or pose for a photo op in a little barrel airplane. Huge thanks goes to the Vernon Flying Club who helped produce this exhibit. The opening night includes speeches by two men who truly know that the sky is the limit: Duke Dawe, a retired flight lieutenant, and Rick Thornburn, a long-time Vernon citizen and member of the Vernon Flying Club, will be presenting at 7:15 PM. Doors open to members and VIP at 6:30 PM and to the public at 7 PM. Admission by donation.
